Experience

Ken is a respected Technologist and Engineer.   He has experience in the design, planning, installation and wiring at broadcasting events, and in the construction of new technical facilities.  He has also provided leadership to various broadcasting professionals in the coverage of events.

During the planning and construction of the CBC/SRC Ottawa Broadcast Centre, Ken was involved in numerous committees, through construction, to implementation and training. He actively participated in the design of an integrated technical facility, including meeting with colleagues, to help provide them with a technical and operational understanding of the project.

 

Technical:

While working in Ottawa, Ken has been on various Parliamentary Media committees for new building construction and renovation projects, and for the planning and installation of new broadcast facilities.

He designed and implemented the optical fibre system in the Parliamentary Precinct, to originate and transmit signals on a daily basis and for Specials originating from Parliament Hill (House of Commons Foyer, Hall of Honor, Canada Day, Throne Speech, etc.).

He designed, drafted, and created all running lists for the National Press Building and Centre Block projects, as part of the move to the Ottawa Broadcast Centre, which included the installation of new technology. He was also responsible for the supervision of the installers, as well as the co-ordination with Public Works.

During Special Events on Parliament Hill, Ken was responsible for the installation of Data and Telephone Services to Production Mobiles, and other temporary Production areas.

In 1995, as part of Newsworld's expanding coverage in Ottawa, Ken not only designed the new Studio, Control Room, and Translation Booth, he procured the equipment needed from other regions existing inventory to help keep the project on budget. He provided all documentation needed for the construction and wiring of the new facility. For this, Ken was granted the MICAM Award, by the CBC/SRC Engineering Department.

 

Co-ordination, Administration, and Management

Co-ordinated with various levels of Public Works and House of Commons Broadcast, for projects on Parliament Hill.

Represented CBC News and CBCNN for Special Events technical set-ups.

Provided technical and operations support to Toronto and Montreal Technical Producers, and other Production staff.

Generated and maintained a web site aimed at providing information and technical co-ordination for CBC's Ottawa Parliamentary Bureau.

Supervised Installers and Contractors during various construction projects.
